All skill levels of riders are welcome to participate along with partners, friends and relatives. Our riding days will now be scheduled for the 3rd Friday of each month starting in May and running each month until late October.

We endeavour to ride off road on groomed trails that are suitable for most types of bike tires. E-bikes are welcome, riding lengths can be adjusted for individual endurance. Picnic lunches or restaurant settings are organized for each ride.

Contact Joe Reid for sign up to the bikers mailing list for advance notices of dates, routes, meeting places and lunch arrangements.

Helpers needed, please contact Joe.

Remember to always
check your bike prior to rides, bring water, wear a helmet, bring a lock and your cell phone (if you have one).

Applewood Probus Biking for 2025

Traditionally our bike group has met for a bike ride once a month on a Friday (but Thursdays on occasion) during those months suitable for enjoyable biking, thus normally starting with the month of May and ending with the month of October. We try to keep our trip distance to approximately 20 km (with those wanting a longer ride having the option of also biking just before we meet or at the end of our excursion); including a nice place to have lunch at our midway point or at the end of our ride; start our ride in the morning so as to avoid afternoon rush hour(s) to the extent possible; keep to recreational trails, so as to avoid as much as possible sharing our path with motorized vehicles; and keep extensive hill climbs to a minimum. You are welcome to bring along a friend, spouse or partner.

The dates are as follows, recognizing that we may get rained out on occasion (in which case your coordinator will do his best to arrange for the ride to take place on a subsequent day):

                                               May 29      June 20      July 10      August 15      September 19      October 17

Please try to save these dates to ensure that we have a great turnout.

End of Season Bike Report

Our biking season this year was comprised of one  trip per month from May to October, with one trip cancelled due to lack of participants.

Our October trip out of Palgrave included 6 riders, with the weather and fall colours making for an enjoyable ride. Below, we are enjoying lunch at the Caledonia Hills Brewery

As I keep harping on, the traffic in the GTA gets worse by the day, making it more and more problematic to do a wider variety of rail trails.

However, I promise to do my best next season to make our trips as rewarding and enjoyable as possible. Stay tuned for more news.

August 2025

On August 15th, seven hardy bikers set off along the Centennial Trail running from the Burloak and QEW area of Burlington and arriving at The Poacher Pub in downtown Burlington for lunch. We did approximately 17 km. in our return journey in beautiful weather.

Our next bike ride will be on the morning of Friday, September19th, with the route yet to be decided. Email Joe Reid at dierhjski@yahoo.ca if you would like to join our wonderful group of enthusiasts.

July 2025

On July 10th, 11 eager bikers did the 21 km. rail trail journey from Caledonia East to Inglewood and back, in beautiful weather. We then drove to the Caledonia Inn to enjoy lunch on their spacious and well shaded and horticultured patio. Our next trip is scheduled for Friday, August 15th. I will be scouting out options of either biking along the Beltline Rail Trail or biking through the Don Valley in the general vicinity of the old brick factory.

May 2025

On May 29th, seven of our bike club  members and spouses completed a return journey of a bit over 21 km. along the Cataract Elora Rail Trail between Dundas Valley Conservation Area and lands unknown to the west of there. Lunch was had afterward at the Blackbird Brewery in the old downtown  portion of Ancaster. Our next bike ride will be on the morning of Friday, June 20th, at a location yet to be determined.
